Statement as of 8:49 AM EST on February 23, 2019

Expires 7:00 AM EST on February 24, 2019

... The flood advisory for minor flooding in poor drainage areas
remains in effect until 1100 am EST for
Alleghany... Watauga and Ashe counties in northwestern North
Carolina... Smyth... Tazewell... Bland... Wythe... Carroll and Grayson
counties in southwestern Virginia...

At 845 am EST, Doppler radar indicated moderate to at times heavy
rain across the area. Around an inch to an inch and a half of rain
has fallen since Friday. This will keep the threat of minor flooding
going into the morning.

Those living along smaller creeks and streams should monitor water
levels. Low spots and low water crossings will likely be flooded, so
do not cross them.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Boone...
Wytheville...
Galax...
Bland...
and Marion.

Additional rainfall of one half to one inch is expected over the
area through early afternoon.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become
unstable and unsafe.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate Route.

When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding,
including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather Service
by calling toll free at 1... 8 6 6... 2 1 5... 4 3 2 4. Reports and
pictures can also be shared on the National Weather Service
Blacksburg facebook Page and on twitter.
