The Flood Warning continues for
the French Broad River near Fletcher.
* Until late Saturday night.
* At 9:00 PM Friday the stage was 13.2 feet.
* Minor flood stage is 13.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast: the river will continue rising to near 13.5 feet by early
Saturday morning. The river will fall below minor flood stage early
Saturday afternoon.
* Impact... at 13.0 feet... minor flood stage. French Broad River
floodwaters are now inundating Banner farm Rd. Floodwaters may be
approaching portions of Glenn bridge Rd. Farmland and other
low-lying areas within the French Broad River valley from Etowah to
Avery Creek are experiencing scattered flooding. Glenn Bridge Park
and river access is experiencing scattered flooding.
* Impact... at 12.0 feet... action stage continues. Glenn Bridge Park
river access is experiencing minor flooding. Westfeldt park is
experiencing scattered flooding. French Broad River floodwaters
are causing isolated to widely scattered farmland flooding.
* Impact... at 11.5 feet... action stage flooding continues. Butler
bridge Rd. Is inundated with up to 6 inches of floodwaters from the
French Broad River, forcing Road closure.

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued
a

* Flood Watch for portions of northeast Georgia, North Carolina,
and upstate South Carolina, including the following areas, in
northeast Georgia, Franklin, Habersham, Hart, Rabun, and
Stephens. In North Carolina, Alexander, Avery, Buncombe, Burke
mountains, Cabarrus, Caldwell mountains, Catawba, Cleveland,
Davie, eastern McDowell, eastern Polk, Gaston, Graham, greater
Burke, greater Caldwell, greater Rutherford, Haywood,
Henderson, Iredell, Lincoln, Macon, Madison, McDowell
Mountains, Mecklenburg, Mitchell, northern Jackson, Polk
mountains, Rowan, Rutherford mountains, southern Jackson,
Swain, Transylvania, and Yancey. In upstate South Carolina,
Anderson, Cherokee, greater Greenville, greater Oconee,
greater Pickens, Greenville mountains, Oconee mountains,
Pickens mountains, Spartanburg, and York.

* Through Sunday morning

* many area rivers have already risen out of their banks or have
caused minor flooding. Additional rainfall today and tonight,
and especially early Sunday, will cause rivers to keep rising.
This will result in flooding on some rivers where it may not
have occurred recently, and in poorly drained areas even away
from rivers.

* Roads may cover with water in some areas, becoming impassable.
Rivers may rise into campgrounds, Parks, and other recreational
sites along their banks.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.

* At 08 am Friday the stage was 6.5 feet and rising steadily.
* Action/advisory stage is 6.5 feet.
* Minor flood stage is 9.5 feet.
* Forecast: the river will rise to near 8.5 feet by early Saturday
morning.
* Impacts: at 8.0 feet: action stage flooding continues. The French
Broad River is beginning to flood low-lying areas near Pearson
bridge Rd. And may be approaching Industrial property..
* impacts: at 7.5 feet: action stage flooding continues. French Broad
River floodwaters continue to flood Woodfin Riverside Park, the
floodplain adjacent to Craggy Dam Reservoir, Carrier park, and
French Broad River park as well as other low-lying areas within the
flood plain. Floodwaters may be approaching Amboy Rd. And Lyman
St. Local small tributaries including Smith Mill creek near Emma
Rd. May be exceeding bankfull levels..
* impacts: at 6.5 feet: action stage. The French Broad River is
exceeding its banks and beginning to flood low-lying areas,
including the Woodfin Riverside Park, the floodplain adjacent to
Craggy Dam Reservoir, Carrier park, and French Broad River park..

Sunday...

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued
a Wind Advisory, which is in effect from 7 PM this evening to 7
PM EST Sunday.

* Locations... the central and southern mountains of western North
Carolina.

* Hazards... very windy conditions.

* Timing... southwest winds will increase this evening and then
maximize early overnight ahead of an approaching cold front.
Winds will turn sharply west then northwest on Sunday and
strengthen through the day.

* Winds... southwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph at
elevations above 3500 feet tonight. Following the cold front
passage early Sunday, west to northwest winds at 20 to 30 mph,
with gusts of 40 to 50 mph, throughout on Sunday.

* Impacts... gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree
limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory means that winds of 35 mph are expected. Winds
this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high
profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
