Areal Flood Advisory, Flash Flood Watch

... The flood advisory remains in effect until 1245 PM EDT for central
New Hanover and east central Brunswick counties...

At 1023 am EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain over the tip of
Cape Fear due to showers and thunderstorms, with up to 3 inches of
rainfall over the Myrtle Grove area. This will cause minor flooding
in the advisory area. The storms will move from southwest to
northeast but the whole area of heavy rain will shift offshore.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Carolina Beach, Wrightsville Beach, Kure Beach, south Masonboro
Island, Snows Cut, north Masonboro Island, Boiling Spring Lakes,
Myrtle Grove, sea breeze, Masonboro, Seagate, Fort Fisher, Silver
Lake and Ogden.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

late tonight...

The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of southeast North Carolina and
northeast South Carolina, including the following areas, in
southeast North Carolina, Bladen, coastal Brunswick, coastal
New Hanover, coastal Pender, Columbus, inland Brunswick,
inland New Hanover, inland Pender, and Robeson. In northeast
South Carolina, coastal Georgetown, coastal Horry, Darlington,
Dillon, Florence, inland Georgetown, inland Horry, Marion,
Marlboro, and Williamsburg.

* From 8 am EDT this morning through late tonight

* showers and thunderstorms will continue to move across the area
from time to time through tonight. Some areas have seen 2-4
inches of rain already with an additional 2-4 inches and
isolated higher amounts possible.

* As the ground becomes saturated, the potential for flash
flooding will increase especially in areas of poor drainage.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.

The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a beach
hazards statement... which is in effect through Tuesday evening.

Southerly winds will produce a strong south to north longshore
current on Tuesday along the beaches in Pender... New
Hanover... Horry... and Georgetown counties.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A beach hazards statement is issued when threats such as rip
currents, longshore currents, and other hazards create life-
threatening conditions in the surf zone. Caution should be used when
in or near the water.
