* until 630 PM CDT

* at 330 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to showers
and a few thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream
flooding. Overflowing poor drainage areas will result in minor
flooding in the advisory area. An inch of rain will fall in a
short period if time on already saturated ground.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Birmingham, Hoover, Gadsden, Alabaster, Bessemer, Pelham, Helena,
Talladega, Sylacauga, Pell City, Leeds, Moody, Calera, Chelsea,
Rainbow City, Oneonta, Montevallo, Childersburg, Brent and Hokes
Bluff.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Keep children away from storm drains, culverts, creeks and streams.
Water levels can rise rapidly and sweep children away.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of central Alabama, northeast Alabama, northwest
Alabama, and west central Alabama, including the following
areas, in central Alabama, Bibb, Blount, Chilton, Coosa,
Jefferson, Perry, Shelby, St. Clair, Talladega, and Walker. In
northeast Alabama, Etowah. In northwest Alabama, Marion and
Winston. In west central Alabama, Fayette, Greene, Hale,
Lamar, Marengo, Pickens, Sumter, and Tuscaloosa.

* Through 7 PM today.

* Tropical system Cindy has already produced 2 to 4 inches of rain
with locally higher amounts up to 7 inches. An additional 1 to 3
inches of rain is possible through this afternoon. There is a
possibility that the Flash Flood Watch may need to be extended
due to additional rainfall tonight and into Saturday.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.

At 323 PM CDT, radar indicated strong thunderstorms were located
along a line extending from near Steele to Calera. Movement was
northeast at 40 mph.

Winds in excess of 40 mph are possible with these storms.

Locations impacted include...
Birmingham, Hoover, Gadsden, Vestavia Hills, Alabaster, Anniston,
Pelham, Oxford, Trussville, Talladega, Sylacauga, Pell City,
Jacksonville, Irondale, Leeds, Moody, Calera, Chelsea, Rainbow City
and Montevallo.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may
cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.

to near Knoxville. Movement was east at 25 mph.
