... Flood Watch in effect from 2 PM EDT this afternoon through
Friday evening...

The National Weather Service in Tampa Bay area - Ruskin FL has
issued a

* Flood Watch for portions of central Florida... northern Florida
and west central Florida... including the following areas... in
central Florida... Sumter. In northern Florida... coastal Levy
and inland Levy. In west central Florida... coastal Citrus...
coastal Hernando... coastal Hillsborough... coastal Manatee...
coastal Pasco... coastal Sarasota... inland Citrus... inland
Hernando... inland Hillsborough... inland Manatee... inland
Pasco... inland Sarasota and Pinellas.

* From 2 PM EDT this afternoon through Friday evening

* numerous to widespread showers and isolated thunderstorms are
expected to continue over the watch area. Conditions will be
supportive of heavy rainfall accumulations up to 8 to 12
inches... with locally higher amounts possible in some locations.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.

... Record daily maximum rainfall and record low maximum set at Tampa
and St. Petersburg today...

Through 7 PM EDT... a new daily record rainfall of 3.34 inches has
been set at Tampa International Airport. This breaks the old record
of 3.02 inches set in 1960 and with more rain expected this total
will continue to climb. Also... a new daily record low maximum of 78
degrees will likely be set at Tampa. The old record daily low
maximum for today is 81 set in 1985... 1939 and 1937.

Through 7 PM EDT... a new daily record rainfall of 4.33 inches has
been set at St. Petersburg - Albert Whitted Airport. This breaks the
old record of 1.79 inches set in 1932 and with more rain expected
this total will continue to climb. Also... a new daily record low
maximum of 79 degrees will likely be set at St Petersburg. The old
record daily low maximum for today is 80 set in 1939.
