... Summary...
the National Weather Service in Charleston SC in conjunction with
Beaufort County emergency management has confirmed that a microburst
/straight line wind damage/ occurred about 1 mile southwest of
Lobeco in Beaufort County... South Carolina... on September
4th... 2015.

A small cluster of thunderstorms began to intensify near the
edisto river around 330 PM EDT. The storms moved southwest around
20 mph and intensified as they moved over the northern portions
of Beaufort County between the communities of Lobeco and Dale. The
thunderstorms rapidly collapsed as they approached the Highway 21
bridge south of Lobeco and produced damaging winds in a very small
area along the Southern Shores of The Harbor river from Highway 21
westward along portions of Seabrook Road. High winds produced by
the collapsing thunderstorm uprooted and snapped 10 large Water
Oaks between Seabrook Road and The Harbor river and two Mobile
homes sustained damage. No injuries or deaths occurred.

The damage pattern is consistent with straight line winds from a
microburst with maximum speeds around 70 mph. There were no
indications of a tornado.

For reference...
a microburst is a convective downdraft with an affected outflow
area of less than 2 1/2 miles wide and peak winds lasting less
than 5 minutes. Microbursts may induce dangerous horizontal and
vertical wind shears... which can adversely affect aircraft
performance and cause property damage. Straight-line winds are
generally any wind that is not associated with rotation... used
mainly to differentiate them from tornadic winds.
