    ... near normal temperatures and above normal rainfall...

September is the peak of hurricane season and the wettest month of
the year for Jacksonville. This year there were no tropical systems
affecting northeast Florida/southeast Georgia... other than some swells
along the beaches from Hurricane Edouard far out in the Atlantic. This
was also the 50th anniversary of Hurricane Dora making landfall near
St Augustine.

September weather was mainly the result of stalled cold fronts... overriding
moisture... and low pressure.

This was the wettest month measured at Jacksonville International Airport
since June 2012... it rank as the 30th wettest September on record. Some
areas had over 14 inches. Flooding and Road closures were reported in Suwannee
County after 5 to 6 inches of rain fell over the area in the first week of the
month. Likewise 5 to 6 inches of rain near the Okefenokee Swamp led to moderate
flooding on the St Marys River near Macclenny from the 9th to the 14th. Ft white
on the Santa Fe River reached minor flood stage during this same period.


At Jacksonville International Airport...

Temperatures... the average monthly temperature for September was 77.7 degrees
... 0.5 degrees below normal. The average daily high was 85.6 degrees and
the average daily low was 69.8 degrees. The maximum for the month was 94
degrees on the 1st... the minimum was 62 degrees on the 22nd. A record low
maximum was set on the 24th when the temperature topped out at 72 degrees.


Rainfall...
September rainfall totaled 9.80 inches... 1.61inches above normal. There
were 13 days of measurable rainfall. The greatest 24 hour total was
3.05 inches on the 29th.

Wind...
the average wind speed for September was 5.3 miles per hour. The peak wind
gust for the month was 30 miles per hour from the northeast on the 23rd.

For energy consumption purposes...
there were 0 heating degree days... which is normal. There were 391
cooling degree days... which is 5 below normal.

Outlook...
the outlook for October calls for a greater chance of above normal
temperatures and equal chances of normal rainfall. The normal monthly
temperature for October is 70.4 degrees. The normal daily high is 80.4
degrees and the normal daily low is 60.5 degrees. Normal October rainfall
is 3.93 inches.
