Public Information Statement

Statement as of 6:00 AM CST on March 06, 2015

... severe weather awareness week in Louisiana...
          ... March 1 through March 7 2015

The week of March 1 through March 7 has been designated as severe
weather awareness week in Louisiana. The late winter and Spring
months typically bring the highest frequency of severe weather to
the Gulf Coast region. Severe weather awareness week is a good time
to review severe weather safety plans and ensure you have a means to
receive timely warnings.

One of the most important features of your severe weather safety
plan is to have a reliable means to receive severe weather
warnings. A battery operated NOAA Weather Radio can be programmed
to automatically alarm and broadcast any severe weather warning
issued for your Parish or County.

Many newer cell phones take advantage of the new wireless emergency
alert feature. National Weather Service tornado... flash flood... and
hurricane warnings are currently sent through this system and
automatically alert cell phones in the warned area. Special
applications or additional software are not needed and messages will
look very similar to text messages when received. The wireless
emergency alert website and your cell phone service provider can
supply additional information.

For more information on severe weather visit the National Weather
Service web site at www.Srh.NOAA.Gov/lix... or contact the National
Weather Service forecast office in Slidell la at telephone number
985-649-0357.
