The National Weather Service in Lake Charles has extended the

* Flash Flood Warning for...
southeastern Cameron Parish in southwestern Louisiana...
Vermilion Parish in southwestern Louisiana...
St. Martin Parish in south central Louisiana...
Iberia Parish in south central Louisiana...
northwestern St. Mary Parish in south central Louisiana...
southeastern Evangeline Parish in central Louisiana...
southern St. Landry Parish in central Louisiana...
Acadia Parish in southwestern Louisiana...
Lafayette Parish in south central Louisiana...

* until 1100 PM CDT Sunday

* at 427 PM CDT... Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms over
portions of southwest Louisiana moving eastward towards Acadiana.
Radar estimates that upwards of 9 inches have already fallen today
within the warned area... and an additional 1 to 2 inches will be
possible with these storms. Reports from local media and law
enforcement indicate that flash flooding is already occurring...
and these additional rains will only aggravate the situation.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Lafayette... New Iberia... Opelousas... Crowley... Abbeville... Catahoula...
Eunice... Scott... Breaux Bridge... Rayne... Franklin... Carencro... St.
Martinville... Jeanerette... Kaplan... Church Point... Iota... Gueydan...

The Flood Warning continues for
the Mermentau river near Mermentau.
* Until further notice... or until the warning is cancelled.
* At 10:15 am Sunday the stage was 4.8 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 4.0 feet.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 5.5 feet by
Wednesday morning then begin falling.
* Impact... at stages near 5.5 feet... a few recreational camps and
residences are subject to flooding.

... Flood Warning extended until further notice... the Flood Warning
continues for
the Vermilion river at Lafayette, Surrey street gage.
* Until further notice... or until the warning is cancelled.
* At 10:15 am Sunday the stage was 12.4 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 10.0 feet.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 13.5 feet by this
evening then begin falling.
* Impact... at stages near 13.5 feet... flooding of some yards near
the river will occur. Significant flooding of Beaver Park and
Vermilionville will occur.

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of Louisiana and southeast Texas... including the
following areas... in Louisiana... Acadia... Allen... Avoyelles...
Beauregard... Calcasieu... East Cameron... Evangeline... Iberia...
Jefferson Davis... Lafayette... lower St. Martin... Rapides... St.
Landry... St. Mary... upper St. Martin... Vermilion... Vernon and
West Cameron. In southeast Texas... Hardin... Jefferson...
northern Jasper... northern Newton... Orange... southern Jasper...
   southern Newton and Tyler.

* Through Monday evening

* rainfall amounts of two to four inches is possible in the watch
area... with locally higher amounts.

* Primary impacts will be flash flooding of low lying locations
especially in urban areas with poor drainage or along low
lying rural roads. Flooding of streams... creeks and bayous can
be expected.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
