... Winter Storm Watch in effect from late Thursday night through
Saturday morning...

The National Weather Service in Caribou has issued a Winter Storm
Watch... which is in effect from late Thursday night through
Saturday morning.

* Locations... eastern Maine.

* Hazard types... snow.

* Timing... snow will develop late Thursday night or early Friday
morning and continue into early Saturday morning.

* Accumulations... 7 inches or more possible.

* Impacts... snow... possibly heavy at times... will likely result in
hazardous travel conditions. Areas of blowing snow may result in
poor visibilities Friday night.

* Winds... north 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.

* Temperatures... highs Friday in the upper 20s to low 30s.

* Visibilities... 1/2 mile or less at times.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant
snow... sleet... or ice accumulations that may impact travel.

a record snowfall of 13.3 inches was set at Bangor ME yesterday.
This breaks the old record of 10.8 set in 1963.

... Temperatures and snowfall so far this January...

A total of 13.3 inches of snow fell at Bangor yesterday. This
broke the daily record for 1/27 of 10.8 inches set in 1963. For
the month there has been a total of 27.2 inches of snow... which is
10.4 inches above normal. Month to date it has been the snowiest
January since 2011. For the winter of 2014-15 season a total of
60.1 inches of snow has been observed... which is 26.5 inches above
normal.

The average temperature so far this January of 14.6 degrees is
2.3 digress below normal. It has been the coldest January since
2009.

At Caribou... 7.2 inches of snow was observed yesterday. This
pushes the monthly total to 21.1 inches... which is just 9 tenths
of an inch below normal. For the winter 2014-15 season a total of
77 inches of snow has been observed... which is 19.9 inches above
normal.

The average temperature so far this January of 8.1 degrees is 2.1
degrees below normal. It has been the coldest January since 2009.
