Air Quality Alert

Statement as of 9:00 AM MDT on August 23, 2017

Expires 11:00 AM EDT on August 24, 2017

... Air quality alert in effect until 900am MDT Thursday...

The Montana department of environmental quality has issued an air
quality alert for Deer Lodge, Granite, Jefferson, Lake, Lewis And
Clark, Mineral, Missoula, Powell, Ravalli, and Silver Bow counties in
effect until 900am 8/24/2017 due to fire activity in west-central
Montana and transported smoke from the Pacific northwest. Air quality
is expected to remain poor throughout the day. A cold front should
allow air quality to improve in some valleys tonight into Thursday
but increased fire activity will inhibit long term improvement. Air
quality impacts are most significant near the Lolo Peak and Rice
Ridge fires.

An air quality alert means that particulates have been trending
upwards and that an exceedence of the 24 hour National ambient air
quality Standard (naaqs) has occurred or may occur in the near
future.

As of 900am, particulate levels in Lolo, Florence, and Seeley Lake
are hazardous

As of 900am, particulate levels in Arlee, Butte, Clearwater, Condon,
Frenchtown, Helena, Lincoln, Missoula, Philipsburg, Rock Creek and
Superior are unhealthy

As of 900am, particulate levels in Hamilton and Rainy Lake are
unhealthy for sensitive groups

As of 900am, particulate levels in Alberton are moderate
