The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a heat
advisory, which is in effect from noon today to 7 PM EDT this
* Heat index values... 105 to 108 degrees.
* Timing... the worst conditions will be from 2 PM to 5 PM.
* Impacts... the heat and humidity may cause heat stress during
If you must be outdoors, drink plenty of fluids, wear light
weight clothing and stay out of direct sunshine. In addition,
know the signs of heat illnesses and be sure to check on those
who are most vulnerable to the heat such as Young children and
the elderly. Never leave children or pets in a vehicle.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency - call 9 1 1.

... Strong thunderstorms will impact portions of Beaufort and Jasper
At 312 PM EDT, National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a
strong thunderstorm near Old House, or 7 miles east of Ridgeland,
moving east at 20 mph.
Hazard... strong winds 45 to 55 mph.
Impact... expect minor damage to tree limbs and blowing around of
light, unsecured objects.
Some locations in the path of this storm include...
Beaufort, Port Royal, Clarendon, Shell Point, Burton, Old House,
Laurel Bay and Beaufort Marine Corps Air Station.
This storm may intensify. Be certain to monitor local radio and TV
stations as well as local cable TV outlets for additional information
