... Forecast flooding increased from minor to moderate severity... the
Flood Warning continues for
the Rappahannock River at Remington.
* Until late Saturday night.
* At 3 PM Friday the stage was 12.7 feet and rising.
* Flood stage is 15.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by early this evening and crest
near 20.3 feet by overnight tonight. The river will fall below
flood stage by late tomorrow evening.
* Impact... at 20.0 feet... a few homes south of Remington are flooded
along with adjacent roads.
* Flood history... this crest compares to a previous crest of 19.4 feet
on may 17 2014.

... Forecast flooding increased from moderate to major severity... the
Flood Warning continues for
the Rapidan river near Culpeper.
* Until late Saturday night.
* At 4 PM Friday the stage was 17.8 feet and rising.
* Flood stage is 13.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast.
* Recent activity... the maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at
4 PM Friday was 17.8 feet.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 21.5 feet by
overnight tonight. The river will fall below flood stage late
tomorrow evening.
* Impact... at 21.0 feet... significant flooding of lowlands near the
river will occur, including significant portions of roads near the
river. Travel will be severely affected. Water is likely
approaching structures.

The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has extended the

* Flood Warning for...
north central Orange County in central Virginia...
south central Culpeper County in northern Virginia...

* until 1100 PM EDT Friday.

* At 349 PM EDT, river gauges indicate that flooding continues along
the Rapidan river along the Culpeper and Orange County line. The
Rapidan river at Culpeper was at 16.82 feet and approaching
moderate flooding. At 17 feet, water begins to approach
outbuildings on both sides of the river downstream of the Route
522 bridge.

* Some locations that may experience flooding include...
Rapidan.

This includes the following streams and drainages... Robinson river...
cabin branch... Rapidan river and mountain run.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. All
interested parties should take necessary precautions immediately.

central Culpeper County in northern Virginia...

* until 930 PM EDT Friday.

* At 256 PM EDT, flooding continues across much of the County along
the Rapidan river, in Culpeper, and in Viewtown.

* Some locations that may experience flooding include...
Culpeper, Brandy Station, Catalpa, Stevensburg and Alanthus.

This includes the following streams and drainages... Rappahannock
River... Sumerduck run... Buck Run... Flat Run... potato run... Rapidan
River... Mountain run... Meadowbrook run... Jonas run... balds run...
hungry run... Muddy run... Apperson creek and Hazel river.

The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has extended the

* Flood Warning for...
Rappahannock County in northwestern Virginia...
northwestern Culpeper County in northern Virginia...

* until 815 PM EDT Friday.

* At 122 PM EDT, the gauge at Rixeyville on the Hazel river
continues to rise above above 20 feet. At 20 feet, Monumental
Mills Road floods near Butler store Road. Other roads are likely
flooded near the Hazel river. The Rappahannock County 911 center
reported numerous roads closed due to high water. The gauge has
crested at Laurel Mills remains above flood stage. Water is
covering portions of Laurel Mills Road and Red Hill Lane.

* Creeks and streams will continue to flow out of their banks this
afternoon. An additional round of moderate to heavy rain is
possible this evening, and this may cause more flooding.

* Some locations that may experience flooding include...
Sperryville, Chester Gap, Flint Hill, Washington, Castleton,
Huntly, Elkwood, Viewtown, hackleys Crossroads, Woodville,
Amissville, Jeffersonton, Fourway, Five Forks, Rock Mills,
Rixeyville, Alanthus, Boston and Slate Mills.

due to the previous heavy rainfall.

Massaponax, Spotsylvania, Falmouth, Gordonsville, Passapatanzy,

The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of central Virginia, northern
Virginia, and northwest Virginia, including the following
areas, in central Virginia, Greene, King George, Orange, and
Spotsylvania. In northern Virginia, Culpeper, southern
Fauquier, and Stafford. In northwest Virginia, Madison,
northern Virginia Blue Ridge, Page, and Rappahannock.

* From 6 PM EDT this evening through late tonight

* heavy rain expected as showers and thunderstorms develop over
the area. Rainfall amounts will be between 1 and 2 inches, with
localized higher amounts possible.

* Rapid rises in water due to excessive rain are possible,
especially in the wake of the recent heavy rains across the
area. Streams and creeks could quickly exceed bankfull. Roads
may become blocked by high water. Mudslides are possible in
areas where heavy rain persists over higher terrain.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
