* location... Virginia Beach and Outer Banks Currituck locations
adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean.
* Timing... the most likely time for strong rip currents is a couple hours on
either side of low tide.
* Surf or rip current risk... nearshore large breaking waves of 4 to 6 ft will
result in dangerous surf conditions and a high risk of rip currents. Do not
enter or approach the water due to the risk of being swept away.
A beach hazards statement is issued when threats such as rip currents...
longshore currents... sneaker waves and other hazards create life-threatening
conditions in the surf zone. Caution should be used when in or near the water.
